Exciting new partnership!

blog1We are very excited to announce a new partnership that began this September.

Over the years, Youville Centre, like other mainstream high schools, has had to stop serving students when they reached the age of 21 years regardless of how close they were to achieving their high school diplomas.  As a result of this, unfortunately, many of our young moms left the Centre a few credits short of receiving their High School diplomas.

The Youville Centre believes that young mothers in their early and mid twenties are still at a vulnerable age and that they and their young families would benefit enormously from the supports offered at Youville.

We are delighted to announce that starting in September, Youville is now home to a St. Nicholas Adult Highschool Classroom (St. Nick’s) within Youville Centre where young mothers over the age of 21 can continue to earn their OSSD credits while receiving Youville services.

If you are a young mom who has previously been unable to attend Youville because of an age restriction please call or text our Intake Coordinator at (613) 864-6611 or email intake@youvillecentre.org to find out more about this new partnership.

Back-to-School @ Youville:

On Tuesday, September 6th Youville students were welcomed back to the Centre with our annual back-to-school orientation day.  Youville and St Nick’s students gathered in Kinsella Hall to learn about the wrap-around services offered through the Centre.

The students enjoyed a hot breakfast, an overview of the student hand-book, ice-breaker games to get to know each other and information tables highlighting the various programs that Youville has to offer such as: schedules and activities in the Child Development Program, Counselling services, curriculum overview from M.F. McHugh and St Nick’s teaching staff, and partnerships with organizations such as LEAP and the Ottawa Food Bank.  Returning Youville students also had an information table to promote a student-driven program called Sources of Strength to their new peers.
