Housing Support
The Ottawa Community Housing Corporation has allocated several subsidized units for the use of Youville clients. During 2010, we successfully converted all of our agency leases to direct leases between the City and individual tenants. We have appreciated the City's Cooperation in this endeavour.
Co-op Voisins, a cooperative apartment project close to the Youville Centre on Wiggins Private, provides two units for the use of Youville students. Emily Murphy Non-profit Housing continues to provide five units for our young mothers. We are grateful for the opportunity these units provide to our students. Adequate and appropriate affordable housing is made possible through partnerships such as these. Our partnership with Housing Help has been exceptionally profitable for our Moms. During monthly on-site visits to Youville Centre, the Housing Help staff has assisted our clients to:
Complete housing applications
Receive information on tenant rights and responsibilities
Conduct housing searches
Acquire information re emergency
We have also provided Housing Support to our clients, both former and current students through information sessions to educate our mothers about safe, affordable housing, landlord-tenant legislation, the Ottawa Social Housing Registry, the rental application process, tenant rights and responsibilities and completion of documentation related to leases. Youville also participates in several other housing initiatives:
Alliance to End Homelessness
Housing Help
Ottawa Social Housing Registry
Social Planning Council of Ottawa
Supportive Housing Network
