Help Us Grow Mother’s Day Campaign: Watch our Tigerlilies Bloom!

Each week in May, as part of our Help us Grow Mother’s Day Campaign, we will be featuring all five of our rooms in the Child Development Program.

In these blog posts you will meet the “Room Ambassadors”, learn what the infants or toddlers in that room do each day, and learn about some of the developmental skills they are working on.

At the bottom of each post we will be reminding you about the featured ways to give that are coming up in the Help us Grow Mother’s Day Campaigntake a look and see which events and in-store initiatives you can attend!

Please read and enjoy, share with friends and on social media with the hashtag #HelpYouvilleGrow

Watch our Tigerlilies Bloom!

Our Tigerlilies, who are age 12 to 18 months, are working on many developmental skills, including language and gross motor skills. Every day they have the opportunity to develop these skills through art and sensory activities, and they practice their gross motor skills such as cruising, standing alone, and walking, either outside or in the gym on rainy days. They enjoy push toys and climbers for their gross motor development. They love “circle time” where they sing and listen to songs, and enjoy doing the actions. They especially love reading books with their Early Childhood Educators. Each of our Tigerlilies are on different schedules so they sleep when needed, but they enjoy mealtimes together.

Meet the “Room Ambassadors”!

Charlotte

Charlotte is our oldest Tigerlily friend. She loves to snuggle with her teachers and read books all day long. She is working toward moving to the Daisy room by sitting at the table to eat her meals and learning new words every day!

Skye

Skye-Bug is one our youngest Tigerlily friends. You can always find her snuggling with her favorite blanket. She loves to play peek-a-boo and run around the room with her friends. Skye is working on learning some new words!

There is never a dull moment in the Tigerlily room! An active room full of busy, smiling faces and energetic voices, the Tigerlily room encourages language by keeping up a constant conversation with the children. Everything is labelled and repetition of words is encouraged. Our Tigerlilies are just starting to work on their social development; to play and engage with others, and to gain a sense of themselves in relation to each other and their teachers. This is a time when they are learning to explore independently and prepare to move on to the Daisy program where they will experience a more structured day and focus even more on their emerging skills.

Outpouring of Support for Mother’s Day Campaign

Mother’s Day is an important time at Youville Centre, and this May we continued our tradition with our Mother’s Day Campaign. The campaign is an annual initiative for support from the community, and it focuses on honouring mothers, both here at Youville Centre and in the community.

When donations were given, generous supporters also told us their mother’s name, as the premise of the campaign is to “honour your mother by helping the young mothers of Youville Centre”. As mothers’ names were shared with us, we wrote them on paper tulips that decorated our centre. Slowly each day as donations came in, this ‘paper garden’ grew, and our young moms saw a visual representation of our caring community.

Last year was our first year running this campaign and we were able to raise $3,500! This year we were astonished at the outpouring of support from the community as the campaign raised $7,000!

Our utmost gratitude goes out to each and every one of our donors who supported this campaign! Your donation will go directly to support the innovative programs and services we run at Youville Centre each day.

Thank you for honouring your mother — in doing so, you have directly impacted the lives of Youville Centre’s young mothers and their children.

A Special Way to Honour Your Mother

This Mother’s Day, please consider honouring your mother with a special gift to the young moms and children of Youville Centre.

Mother’s Day is a very special time of year here at Youville Centre. By participating in this annual initiative, your contribution will go towards helping us to continue to support our young moms and their children. Last year we raised $3,500 and this year it is our goal to raise $5,000!

The first name of each mother who is honoured will be written on a paper tulip and displayed around our centre to show our young moms the wonderful support they have from our donor community.

This year we also made a small card that you can give to your mother or to anyone you are honouring this Mother’s Day. We are also mailing a hard copy to everyone on our newsletter mailing list but if you prefer to donate online, please feel free to print this out.
